Da Cooley Thriller’ XC Mountain Bike Marathon 2016
Yes its back, ‘Da Cooley Thriller’ is about to peddle off once more for the 9th time, this Saturday 6th, August 2016 at 10am. Set in the Cooley Mountains just outside Carlingford, Co. Louth the route, approx. 52km, and 18km (Short Thriller) will take riders on a complete traverse of the Cooley Mountains, taking in some of the Táin Trail and forest tracks to some roller coaster natural single trails once navigated by the bold Cuchulainn himself.
Starting in the village with a mass start.
(The Foy Centre, on the left before the church, in the village, is the event centre once again.)
Entrants will receive event ‘head wear’ which has been especially designed for the event, thanks to Galibier.
Elite Male & Elite Female, Experts (open age limit), Masters (30-39), Vets (40-49), Classic Vets (50-59), Vintage Vet (60-the ton !!).
The shorter sport/fun !! 21k course, will be 1st/2nd/3rd Male/Female/Junior
Sign on will open on Friday 5th at the Foy Centre, 7pm until 8pm.
Again on Saturday 6th at 7.30am until 9.30am SHARPISH.
Start 10am (VERY SHARP) village centre. (Neutral through the village to the start/finish line above the village.
There will be 5k of forest road to spread the riders out a bit before the two style crossings. Then it will be 9k on the road climb to the ‘Mast’ ‘The rest is ‘single track’
The First bottle drop/feed station is at ‘the Mast’ (12k approx.) and the second at the ‘windy gap’ (approx. 40k). Please remember which tray you placed your bottle/food in as they will not be removed from trays. Please respect other peoples food. There will be limited water station between both, at approx. 26k, the half way mark. It is highly recommended that you carry extra water either in camel pack or small pack with all the necessary repair kit. (bottles will be returned to the Foy Centre from the Mast at noon, bottles from second feed will be returned to the Foy at 3.30ish. , when we expect the final rider to pass through.
Food served at 2pm onwards with prize giving at 4pm/ish when final finisher has been accounted for – Respect !!)
