Da Cooley Thriller — Pre-Race Briefing

Da Cooley Thriller’ XC Mountain Bike Marathon 2015

Yes its back, ‘Da Cooley Thriller’ is about to peddle off once more for the 8th time, on Saturday 15th, August 2015 at 10am. Set in the Cooley Mountains just outside Carlingford, Co. Louth the route, approx. 54km,  and 18km (Short Thriller) will take riders on a complete traverse of the Cooley Mountains, taking in some of the Táin Trail and forest tracks to some roller coaster natural single trails once navigated by the bold Cuchulainn himself.

Starting in the village with a mass start.
(The Foy Centre, on the left before the church, in the village, is the event centre once again.)

Entrants will receive event  ‘head wear’ which has been especially designed for the event, thanks to Galibier.

Sign on at Foy Centre at 7pm until 8pm on Friday evening and from 7.30am on Saturday morning in Carlingford, the race is starting and finishing in the village centre , to be crowned the Thriller King !!!
Please come early to sign-on on Saturday as it will be busy !!
The Categories are as follows – 1st/2nd/3rd  in the following :-
Elite Male & Female, Experts  (open age limit), Masters (30-39), Vets (40-49), Classic Vets (50-59), Sport Male  (open) & Sport Females (open), Female Vet (40-49) & Male Vintage Vet (60-the ton !!).
One big loop approx. 54k Lap

The shorter sport/fun !! 21k course, will be 1st/2nd/3rd Male/Female/Junior

Sign on will open on Friday 14th at the Foy Centre, 7pm until 8pm. Again on Saturday 15th at 7.30am until 9.15am SHARPISH. 

Start 10am (VERY SHARP) village centre. (Nutural through the village to the start/finish line above the village. Taken by two ‘horse riding cowboys’ (no it’s not Richie Byrne !!) for the last 100m. (Barn Dance at the Foy Center that night – I have 30 well discounted tickets to give away – first come….. first gets. 

There will be 5k of forest road to spread the riders out a bit before the two style crossings. Then it will be 9k on the road climb to the ‘Mast’  The rest is ‘single track’

The First bottle drop/feed station is at ‘the Mast’ (12k approx.) and the second at the ‘windy gap’ (approx. 40k). There will be a water station between both at  approx. 26k, the half way mark. (bottles will be returned to the Foy Centre from the Mast at noon, bottles from second feed will be returned to the Foy at 3.30ish. , when we expect the final rider to pass through.
